Make a Volcano

I remember that, when I was only a little pupil, my chemistry teacher showed us what happens if we put some baking soda in a vinegar bottle: it erupts. If you cannot go to see a real volcano eruption, your only chance to experiment some authentic feelings is to build a volcano on your own. So today, I'm going to explain how you can do that.

First of all, you'll need several things:

  • 6 cups flour
  • 2 cups salt
  • 4 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 2 cups of water
  • a bit red food color
  • detergent
  • baking soda
  • a bottle
  • vinegar
Now, you have to make the "cone" of the volcano. Mix flour, salt, oil and water until you get a smooth and firm mixture. After doing this, stand the bottle in a baking pan and mold the dough around it into a volcano shape. Be careful, do not cover the hole!

And now comes the fun part! Add in the bottle some detergent, warm water, a bit red food color and some baking soda. Wait a couple of moments, until they all mix together. After that, add some vinegar and enjoy. You now have a pocket-size erupting volcano at home!

PS: After all this mess ends, go wash your hands. They stink.
